Texas fell from No. 1 to No. 7 in the AP Top 25 released Sunday, October 11, after a 27–24 loss to Oklahoma. The Longhorns are 4–1 overall through October 10 and next host Florida.

Why did Texas drop?
Texas was No. 1 before the Oklahoma game. The 27–24 rivalry loss ended the unbeaten start, and the October 11 AP poll moved Texas six spots to No. 7. The earlier wins against Ohio State and Tennessee remain part of the 4–1 record.
AP, coaches and CFP rankings
The AP poll is voted on by media members. The coaches poll is a separate vote, and the College Football Playoff committee issues its own rankings later in the season. A No. 1 AP ranking should not be described as a CFP seed. Polls change weekly as opponents and results change.
