View the remaining schedule →The September schedule began with three home games, followed by the first SEC trip to Knoxville. Texas scored 59 against Texas State and 30 against UTSA, while Ohio State and Tennessee were decided by one and three points respectively. Three of the five finals were decided by a field goal or less: Texas is 2–1 in those games. A season average would hide that range of margins.
Oklahoma is the clearest example of why a final score needs context. The official box score shows Texas gained 382 yards to Oklahoma's 238 and threw for three touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions. Oklahoma scored 14 points without an offensive touchdown: seven on a punt return and seven on an interception return. Tate Sandell's 47-yard field goal at the end decided the 27–24 final. Yardage alone misses those two scoring plays.
The Tennessee result was Texas’s first conference win; the Oklahoma loss on October 10 brought the SEC record to 1–1. The Ohio State result counts toward the overall record but not the SEC record. Florida visits Austin on October 17 at 11 a.m. CT. See the conference record or scoring totals.
